Recovering from a rattlesnake bite doesn’t end when you leave the hospital. Many patients continue to experience swelling, pain, limited mobility, weakness, and other concerns for weeks after their initial treatment. The Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center’s Rattlesnake Bite Clinic provides eligible patients with a free in-person follow-up visit after their bite. During this visit, patients receive an expert assessment of their recovery from clinicians with specialized experience in snakebite management.
The Rattlesnake Bite Clinic was created to improve the understanding of recovery following rattlesnake envenomation. By collecting better information about the full course of recovery, we aim to:
- Identify gaps in current outpatient care
- Improve the standard of care for snakebite patients
- Advance research on rattlesnake envenomation recovery
- Inform future treatment recommendations and healthcare policy
- Support decision-making by the FDA and other healthcare agencies
Every patient who participates helps us better understand the long-term effects of snakebite and improve care for future patients.
